AN OVERVIEW OF 3 DIMENSIONAL FIGURES

What is a three dimensional figure? In short 3D figure

Any polygon which can be measured in three directions is called a 3D figure; they are also known as solid shapes. The below diagrams show different 3D shapes

In our everyday day life, there are different things we use which are in form of 3D shapes these things are such as:

Ball (sphere), Rubik’s Cube (Cube), Box (Cuboid/Cube), a mug (Cylinder), a birthday cap (cone) etc. The picture below shows some of real objects we use in everyday life which are in form of 3D shapes:

CHARACTERISTICS OF 3D SHAPES

Unlike 2D shapes, the 3D shapes have the following characteristics:

Three-dimensional shapes have faces, edges and vertices. The flat surfaces of the 3D shapes are called the faces. The line segment where two faces meet is called an edge. A vertex (Plural Vertices) is a point where 3 edges meet. A common vertex where all edges of a pyramid meet is called an Apex. See the picture below:
